12/31/20 - Veteran Kelowna morning show hosts Andy and TJ have been cancelled following the re-branding of CILK-FM 101.5 to Move Radio. 12/22/20 - The CRTC has approved an application by Jim Pattison Broadcast Group to acquire CKMQ-FM 101.1 Merritt. The Commission finds that Pattison would control three FM stations in the Merritt market as a result of this transaction. However it has granted an exception to the Common Ownership Policy, allowing the company to own and operate three FM presences in the market.  CRTC Decision

11/27/20 - The CRTC has approved an application by Radius Holdings Inc. for authority to acquire the assets of the English-language commercial radio station CKOO-FM Kelowna and to obtain a new broadcasting licence to continue the operation of the station. 11/19/20 - Jenn Dalen-Gordon has been promoted by Stingray to Operations Manager for B.C. Interior stations (K97.5, K96.3, Radio NL, New Country 100.7, New Country 100.3), as well as overseeing the Real Country and New Country brands, nationally. Now based in Kamloops, she leaves Red Deer where she was previously Regional Program Director for their stations in Kelowna, Kamloops, Red Deer and Rural Alberta.  Twitter Announcement

10/22/20 - Global Okanagan CHBC-TV has hired longtime radio news anchor Jamie Tawil as anchor-reporter. He has been senior afternoon, then morning anchor at Global News Radio 640 CFMJ AM Toronto for the last 5-1/2 years. Effective December 7, Tawil will anchor multiple editions of Global Okanagan’s late night newscast each week, while also reporting for the network.  Global Release

Fred McDowell

10/21/20 - The wreckage of a possibly decades-old airplane crash discovered on a mountain near Harrison Lake very likely contains the remains of CBC, CJOR and CKNW Vancouver radio personality Fred McDowell who also worked at CKOK Penticton in 1950. 10/02/20 - B.C. Association of Broadcasters President Rob Bye is concerned about the future of broadcasting in the province following the failure of CKOO-FM 103.9 Kelowna linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. He's encouraging regulatory reforms and a tax credit, asking government and other public agencies to dedicate more of their advertising budgets to local media.  Vancouver Sun


9/10/20 - The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has applied to the CRTC for authorization to purchase CKMQ-FM 101.1 Merritt from Merritt Broadcasting Ltd. for $550,000. 9/02/20 - The CRTC has approved an application by the Vernon Community Radio Society to operate a community FM station in Vernon. It will operate at 97.9 MHz with a maximum ERP of 1000 watts at an effective height above average terrain of -148 metres.  CRTC Release

8/27/20 - Global News announced today that Jill Krop, BC Regional Director of Global News, is stepping down after almost 35 years in journalism, including 23 years spent at Global stations. Paul Larsen

8/14/20 - Broadcast consultant Paul Larsen is requesting a new licence to continue operating CKOO-FM 103.9 Kelowna under the same terms and conditions as those in effect under the station's previous licence. 8/07/20 - Charlee Morgan, who has hosted The Beach CKQQ-FM 103.1 Kelowna midday show since its 2017 launch, hosts Classic Hits network middays. 5/21/20 - Stephen Keppler, who hosts p.m. drive on EZ Rock CILK-FM 101.5 Kelowna, and was headlined in early April when he was featured on John Krasinski’s SGN (Some Good News), made his second appearance on the digital series this week. 5/07/20 - Rudy Morelli, long time Director and one of the six founding partners of NL Broadcasting Ltd. in Kamloops in 1970, passed away May 1st at age 86. 4/30/20 - Former Kelowna broadcaster James Moore has left his position at Newstalk 1010 CFRB AM Toronto after 8 years as a reporter. Before moving to Toronto he was a reporter and anchor at The Juice CJUI-FM 103.9 (now off air) 2010-11 and a reporter and weekend anchor at AM 1150 CKFR Kelowna 2011-12. 4/25/20 - Former Okanagan broadcaster Craig Stone is the new afternoon drive host and Assistant PD at Pulse CISF-FM 107.7 Surrey. He worked evenings/ weekends then p.m. drive at CKLZ-FM 104.7 Kelowna from 2009-11 before holding positions in Vancouver, Winnipeg and St. Catherines ON.

4/18/20 - Former CINL Radio Princeton GM and GSM Brian Langston died last night (4/17) following diagnosis with ALS last fall and retirement from his position as GM of CJHR-FM 104.7 Woodstock, ON. He also held executive positions with stations on Vancouver Island and Terrace. Puget Sound Radio

2/11/20 - The CRTC has placed an application by the Vernon Community Radio Society for a new, community FM radio station on the agenda for an April Public Hearing. 1/26/20 - Peach City Radio CFUZ-FM 92.9 celebrates its first full year on air February 1. The station is preparing a full day of live radio featuring many of its locally-created programs. 1/17/20 - The Andy and TJ morning radio show at EZ Rock CILK-FM 101.5 Kelowna has been without TJ since November 2018. Tamara Lindsay has been off the air since being diagnosed with breast cancer.
