Bob Mills
2/28/19 - Bob Mills is leaving his position at Power 104 CKLZ-FM 104.7 Kelowna, where he has been hosting the morning show for 12 years.  His final day on-air will be Friday, May 10.  Mills started his career at CBC Vancouver in 1972, followed by positions in the Okanagan, Red Deer and Calgary, then back to Vancouver on-air and PD of CFOX-FM 99.3 before moving to CKLZ/CKOV Kelowna in 2002.  Josh Duncan, Kelowna Now
Dick Williams
2/25/19 - Former CKWX Vancouver Technician/Engineer Dick Williams died in the Penticton Hospital on February 19.  He celebrated his 100th birthday at Cherry Park Retirement Residence last September.  Williams started at CKWX in 1939 and later moved to CFGP Grande Prairie AB.  He moved to Penticton in 1990, and in 2008 moved to the Cherry Park Retirement Residence.  Puget Sound Radio  100th Birthday Backgrounder
Earl Seitz
2/21/19 - Earl Seitz is being inducted into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame.  He started his career in 1968 as a DJ in Cranbrook.  In 1974, he bagan play-by-play for the Kamloops Chiefs on CFJC radio, before becoming the TV face of CFJC Sports.  Seitz celebrates 51 years in broadcasting this year and was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the RTDNA in 2011.  Chad Klassen, CFJC Today 
Mike Cleaver
2/10/19 - Former Vancouver broadcaster Mike Cleaver died February 10 in Vancouver just short of his 73rd birthday, after fighting kidney disease for the past few months.  His career began at CKOV Kelowna in 1961 followed by positions in Lethbridge, Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton and Ottawa.  He returned to BC in 2000 and worked for CJNW, CKNW and CTV Vancouver before retiring.  Cleaver was also an accomplished technician and operated Mike Cleaver Broadcast Services for the last 12 years.  There will be no funeral or celebration of life per his request.  Donations in his memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada
Peach City Radio CFUZ-FM 92.9
2/05/19 - Peach City Radio CFUZ-FM 92.9 Penticton hit the airwaves Friday.  The community station was founded locally and has been broadcasting online since 2014.  Programming is "exceedingly diverse" and the station is actively searching for new programmers.  Gord Goble, KelownaNow
Angelo Iacobucci
2/03/19 - Hundreds gathered Saturday afternoon to bid farewell to Angelo Iacobucci at a memorial service in Kamloops, seven weeks after he passed away suddenly just two weeks before his 61st birthday.  Although he was based in Kamloops during his 39 years in broadcasting, he was well known to many BC radio listeners, as he filed numerous news reports that ran on a number of stations over the duration of his career.  Adam Donnelly, CFJC Today
Peach City Radio CFUZ-FM 92.9
2/02/19 - Testing of Peach City Radio CFUZ-FM 92.9 Penticton took place over a period of four weeks in December/January and now the station has a broadcast certificate from the CRTC.  Peach City Radio makes its home in the Cannery Trade Centre and the tower and antenna are visible atop the eastern end of the building.  Volunteers have been operating a 24/7 online stream of radio content since 2014 and this will continue in tandem with the new FM signal.  A formal grand opening and open house will take place in the Spring.  PCR Release 
1/30/19 - The CRTC is calling for comments on the capacity of Vernon to support a new station and on whether it should issue a call for applications for new radio station, following an application by Vernon Community Radio Society for a licence to operate a new community radio station to serve the city.  The application specifies 97.9 MHz with an ERP of 1,000 watts.  CRTC Release 
Leo Baggio
1/17/19 - Leo Baggio has been named General Manager of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Kamloops Division, adding to his GSM duties.  Baggio returned to Kamloops last year to take over as GSM for CIFM-FM 98.3, CKBZ-FM 100.1, and CFJC-TV & Radio. He was previously GM/GSM of Pattison’s East Kootenay operations, based in Cranbrook, and before that was director of radio programming and operations in Kamloops.  Baggio replaces Rod Schween, who previously held the GM position in addition to serving as president of the group.  He steps away from day-to-day management in order to focus on strategic growth of the group.  Pattison Release
Steve Shannon
1/15/19 - Former Vancouver and Barriere broadcaster Steve Shannon (Steven Castonguay) died of cancer December 26 in St-Jérôme, Québec at age 71.  He worked at a number of stations in Montréal, Toronto, Hamilton, Calgary and Edmonton before joining CIMA AM 1040 (now CKST) Vancouver circa 1990.  He also ran a public speaking coaching business for executives in Vancouver.  In 2013, he became the owner of The Bear CHLW-FM 93.1 Barriere until 2017 when illness struck.

1/14/19 - Power 104 CKLZ-FM 104.7 Kelowna has announced the lineup for Powerball 2019.  Breaking Benjamin will headline this year’s show, which will take place at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Saturday, April 13.  Josh Duncan, Kelowna Now

1/11/19 - Roo Phelps, former co-host of the New Country CIGV-FM 100.7 Penticton nationally syndicated radio show with Casey Clarke is getting noticed for her detailed tell-all book about the devastating impact of the breakup of a relationship. 11 Weeks is a book written in real time as Phelps came to grips with her split-up.  Kent Molgat, Kelowna Now

1/11/19 - Okanagan Oldies CKOO-FM 103.9 Kelowna has rebranded to Soft 103.9, familiar favourites. The station has added artists like Adele, Ed Sheeran and James Blunt to its oldies playlist. It’s also introducing a new weekend show Sunday Sixties

1/11/19 - Paul Larsen has assumed the role of News Director and Station Manager of Global Okanagan, effective January. 8.  For the last 12 years, Larsen was co-founder and CEO of Clear Sky Radio, which was sold to Vista Radio last month.  Global News Release 
Angelo Iacobucci
1/10/19 - A Celebration of Life for legendary Kamloops news reporter Angelo Iacobucci will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2nd at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Convention Centre.  The event will be hosted by former NL Radio CHNL AM 610 Kamloops Program Director Jim Reynolds.  There will also be a number of speakers and special guests.  Iacobucci passed away suddenly on December 14th at age 60.  Although he was based in Kamloops during his 39 years in broadcasting, he was well known to many BC radio listeners, as he filed numerous news reports that ran on a number of local stations over the duration of his career.  Shane Woodford, Radio NL  Tim Petruk, Kamloops This Week backgrounder
1/10/19 - TJ of Andy & TJ in the Morning on EZ Rock CILK-FM 101.5 Kelowna was diagnosed with breast cancer in November and had surgery a week before Christmas.  She will be absent from the show for the foreseeable future.  Music director and midday host Chanine Carr has been filling in for TJ.  Josh Duncan, Kelowna Now 
Angelo  Iacobucci
1/06/19 - A celebration of life has been planned for Kamloops radio legend Angelo Iacobucci.  It will take place Saturday, February 2, at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Convention Centre.  Iacobucci died suddenly on December 14 at age 60.  He was a 39-year broadcasting veteran, mostly at NL Radio CHNL AM 610 Kamloops.  His news reports were heard on numerous BC stations over the years.  CFJC Today  Kamloops This Week Obituary

11/29/18 - Former Okanagan radio executive Mark Burley is the new Executive Director of the Downtown Kelowna Association.  He was Group Program Director for Bell Media, BC Interior Group from 2005-17, overseeing programming for 22 stations.  Most recently, he’d been working part-time at Okanagan Oldies CKOO-FM 103.9 Kelowna.  Dylan McCullough, KelownaNow

11/15/18 - Vernon Community Radio Society has filed an application with the CRTC to launch a new FM community radio station serving Vernon.  The proposed station has been assigned the call letters CFAN-FM by Industry Canada, to be branded Valley FM.  The station would broadcast at 97.9 MHz, with a maximum effective radiated power of 1000 watts, from a transmitter located east of the city on Vernon Hill.  If approved, test broadcasts will likely begin in the spring of 2019.  Retired broadcaster and consultant Gord Leighton is President of the Society.  Vernon Morning Star

10/27/18 - 10/27/18 - Former Vancouver news anchor Tom Mark aired his last newscast on 1075 Beach Radio CJIB-FM 107.5 Vernon at 9 a.m. Friday after more than 47 years in broadcasting.  Mark worked at a number of Vancouver and Victoria stations, but was most prominent at News 1130 CKWX AM Vancouver from 1996-2001 and the voice of morning news on CKNW AM 980 Vancouver from 2001-14.  Pete McIntyre, Beach Radio Vernon Tribute
Mark Jeffries
10/26/18 - Mark Jeffries aired his final show on EZ Rock CILK-FM 101.5 Kelowna today.  He's hanging up the headphones and retiring.  Jeffries has had a great career including 19 years at EZ Rock Kelowna.  His final voice tracking will air across the interior EZ Rock stations on Monday, October 29.  Gerry O’Day fills the gap beginning Monday as they search for a replacement.  Twitter Release
10/23/18 - The CRTC has approved an application by Newfoundland Capital Corporation Limited, on behalf of Newcap Inc. for authorization to effect a change in the ownership and effective control of various radio and television broadcasting undertakings in British Columbia and several other provinces to Stingray Digital Group Inc.  Total value of the transaction is $523,949,242.  The transaction includes stations in Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton and Vancouver.  Stingray has agreed to continue the operation of the stations under the same terms and conditions as those previously in effect.  CRTC Release

10/21/18 - Jim JJ Johnston, President, CEO, and Media/Executive Coach at JJIMS Inc. JJ International Media and Management Solutions, continues his focus on western broadcasters.  Today he salutes former CKWX/CJAZ-FM Vancouver commercial producer Marty Forbes, who was involved in the evolution of CJAZ to AC CKKS-FM in the mid eighties and PD of CISL in the early 90s.  Forbes got his start in radio at CHNL Kamloops in 1970.  It's the latest in the JJ-365 Salutes series.  JJ-365 Salute
10/12/18 - The CRTC has approved an application by Peach City Community Radio Society to change transmitter site coordinates for CFUZ-FM 92.9, the un-launched low-power, community FM radio undertaking for which a broadcasting licence was approved in May 2015.  The applicant stated that the previously approved transmitter site is no longer available because the organization that provided the original lease for the site no longer exists.  As a consequence, Peach City has been forced to relocate the transmitter site approximately 1.6 kilometres away.  CRTC Decision

10/08/18 - Jim JJ Johnston, President, CEO, and Media/Executive Coach at JJIMS Inc. JJ International Media and Management Solutions, continues his focus on western broadcasters.  Today he salutes Ted Farr, who got his start in radio at CKLG Vancouver in 1969 and was Program Director at CKWX for most of the 1980s.  He has recently come out of semi-retirement to join CKFR AM 1150 Kelowna, where he’s reading radio news in the midday time slot.  It's the latest in the JJ-365 Salutes series.  JJ-365 Salute

10/04/18 - Broadcast Dialogue reports former News 1130 CKWX Business Editor and Global Television Vancouver news writer Russ Byth returns to Power 104 CKLZ-FM 104.7 and Beach Radio CKQQ-FM 103.1 Kelowna following layoffs last fall.  He’s returning as the new morning news writer and will also fill-in on-air as needed.  He was on air in Kelowna from 2013-17.

10/02/18 - Jim JJ Johnston, President, CEO, and Media/Executive Coach at JJIMS Inc. JJ International Media and Management Solutions, continues his focus on western broadcasters.  Today he salutes Dave Spence, who got his start as a DJ at Coast Radio CFWB Campbell River, transferring to their newsroom in Courtenay.  He then moved to a news position at CHNL Kamloops before heading to Calgary and Winnipeg.  He is currently the lead meteorologist at CTV Calgary.  It's the latest in the JJ-365 Salutes series.  JJ-365 Salute

09/20/18 - Ted Farr has announced on his Facebook page he is coming out of semi-retirement to join AM1150 CKFR AM Kelowna.  He’ll be reading radio news for the first time in 37 years in the midday time slot.  Farr’s career includes time as PD at CKWX-AM and KISS FM CKKS-FM Vancouver, and other on-air and senior programming roles.

09/05/18 - Former Vancouver news anchor/ND Tom Mark has announced on his Twitter page that he is retiring after nearly 48 years.  He held positions at a number of Vancouver stations, notably News Director at News 1130 CKWX AM from 1996-2001 and morning news anchor at CKNW AM 980 from 2001-14.  He then moved to the Okanagan and is currently morning anchor at Beach Radio CJIB-FM 107.5 Vernon, where his last shift will be October 26.  Mark is the recipient of four RTNDA Best Newscast Awards.  Twitter Announcement

08/16/18 - CKPG-TV Prince George News Director Dave Barry moves to the same position at CFJC-TV Kamloops effective October 15.  He moves into the job being vacated by Doug Collins, who has held the position since 1971.  As part of Collins’ transition out of management, Susan Edgell will take over as TV Operations Manager and steps away from hosting CFJC Midday. Tanya Cronin becomes the new host of Midday.

08/01/18 - Sunfm CICF-FM105.7 Vernon Sunrise Show co-host Brian Martin moves to Beach Radio CJIB-FM 107.5 effective September 4.  He's been with Sunfm for ten years.  Martin’s show on Beach Radio will be billed as “Vernon’s first choice for morning listening.”  Vernon Morning Star

07/25/18 - The CRTC has approved an application by CBC to change the authorized contours of CBTF-FM 102.7 Falkland, a rebroadcasting transmitter of CBYK-FM 94.1 Kamloops, replacing the existing directional antenna with a new non-directional antenna, increasing the maximum effective radiated power (ERP) from 217 to 272 watts and increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 706 to 714 metres.  The CBC stated that the requested technical changes will allow for the replacement of a timeworn transmitter while maintaining excellent coverage of the Radio One service in the Falkland region.  CRTC Decision

04/11/18 - An obituary has been published for well known radio personality and politician Barrie Clark, who passed away March 16 at age 85.  The open-liner began his career in radio in 1949 and went on to become a councillor for the District of North Vancouver in 1963, an MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour district in 1966, Rentalsman for the Attorney General in 1973, and Kelowna City councillor in 1999.  Sun/Province obituary

04/09/18 - Former Global Vancouver and Global Okanagan meteorologist Wesla Wong is joining the team at Silver Star Mountain Resort near Vernon.  She will be building sales relationships in Kelowna, planning tours and representing Silver Star at various Okanagan events.  Pete McIntyre, Beach Radio

03/30/18 - Former CTV Vancouver meteorologist/weather anchor Duane English has announced on his Twitter page that he is leaving his current weather anchor position at Global Okanagan Kelowna on April 2.  He worked at CTV from 2011-13 before moving to the Okanagan.  His wife Wesla Wong, who was a weather anchor at Global BC, announced her departure from Global Okanagan last month.
03/29/18 - International Harvesters for Christ Evangelistic Association Inc. has applied to the CRTC for a licence to operate a Christian music FM station in Kelowna with a rebroadcasting transmitter in Kamloops.  It would operate at 88.1 MHz with an ERP of 4,200 watts non-directional with an effective height above average terrain of 500 metres.  The rebroadcasting transmitter would operate at 99.1 MHz with an ERP of 3,000 watts non-directional with an EHAAT of 148.6 metres.  CRTC Details  Dale Bass, Kamloops This Week
03/23/18 - The CRTC has approved an application by CBC to change the authorized contours of CBUJ-FM 91.7 Winlaw, a rebroadcaster of Radio One CBTK-FM 88.9 Kelowna by replacing the existing directional antenna with a non-directional one, decreasing the maximum ERP from 474 to 273 watts, increasing the average ERP from 100 to 273 watts, increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 662 to 665.3 metres and correcting existing coordinates.  The licensee stated that the current transmitter is old and must be replaced and that the new transmitter will maintain excellent coverage in the region of Winlaw and vicinity.  It added that the population reached by the Radio One signal will increase significantly.
03/19/18 - Former Vancouver and Kelowna broadcaster/talk show host/politician Barrie Clark died Friday at age 86 after a short battle with cancer.  At his request there will be no service.  Clark's career dates back to CKOV Kelowna in 1949, hosting shows at a number of Vancouver radio and TV stations during the 1950s and '60s, before moving into politics.  He held elected positions in North Vancouver and provincially during the 1960s and '70s before going back into radio in Vancouver and Kelowna and holding office on Kelowna City Council from 1999-2008.  News 1130  Alistair Waters, Salmon Arm Observer

02/22/18 - Global Okanagan CHBC-TV meteorologist Wesla Wong has announced on her Twitter page that her last regular broadcast was Wednesday.  No reason has been given for her departure.  She's been at Global Okanagan since 2013 and was previously a weather anchor at Global BC in Vancouver.

02/16/18 - The River CKRV-FM 97.5 Kamloops has changed its branding and web address.  It's now The New K97.5 with music from the 70s, 80s and 90s.  The new url is http://www.k975.ca/  It's a return to the way it used to be as the original K97 was on the air in Kamloops from 1984 to 1993.
02/15/18 - Veteran Global Okanagan broadcast journalist Blaine Gaffney is one of four to be laid off by Global today.  The others are reported to be journalist Megan Turcato and camera operators Jim Fenton and Bryon McLuckie.  They are among 70 layoffs announced by Corus-owned Global News from its operations across the country.  Gaffney had been with the station since 1990.  InfoTel News

02/09/18 - Andy & TJ in the Morning, Kelowna’s longest running radio morning show, is celebrating 15 years on EZ Rock CILK-FM 101.5.  The duo has received numerous accolades for their work, including multiple Best of the Okanagan Awards and the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.  They’re also dedicated to numerous charitable causes, including the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s Run for the Cure and the Kelowna SPCA.  Their first show on 101.5 EZ Rock was Feb. 3, 2003.  Josh Duncan, Kelowna Now 
02/06/18 - The CRTC has approved an application by CBC for a new transmitter in Braeloch, south of Kelowna, to rebroadcast the programming of Radio One, CBTK-FM.  It will operate at 106.9 MHz with a maximum ERP of 984 watts at -94.3 metres HAAT on an existing CBC tower.  The new transmitter will improve the quality of the Radio One signal in Kelowna and Westbank.  CRTC Decision
